KENYA BARRIS has teamed up with Netflix for a new comedy series which will star Rashida Jones.
The show, titled Black Ecellence is inspired by Barris’ approach to relationships, parenting, race and culture, according to Variety.
The website report that the show will have a similar ton to Curb Your Enthusiasm and will “pull the curtain back and reboot the family sitcom.”
Barris and Jones will executive produce alongside Hale Rothstein, who previously collarborad with Barris on Black-ish and spinoff show Grown-ish.
This new project follows Barris’ exit from his ABC Studios deal in favour of Netflix. Other creators who’ve made a similar move include Shonda Rhimes and Ryan Murphy.
Despite his departure, Barris will maintain a broader connection to the network, as shows Black-ish and Grown-ish have been renewed alongside a second spinoff Mixed-ish which follows the early life of main character Bo Johnson.
