‘Friday UK’ spoof released

A SPOOF of the UK’s answer to ‘hood cult classic’ Friday has been released.

Friday UK, the brainchild of young media mogul Sebastian Thiel, follows the storyline of the popular 1995 film with a ‘London, African twist.’

Comedian Babatunde takes on the iconic role of Craig Jones, played by rapper Ice Cube in the US version, while Tolu ‘T-Boy’ Ogunmefun takes on Chris Tucker’s comical portrayl of Smokey.

In the UK adaptation, which also stars former Choice FM presenter Kat Boyce as Ezal and Adot comedian as Pastor Clever, follows unemployed friends Jones and Smokey as they attempt to pay a drug dealer $200 by 10.00pm on Friday night.

The spinoff, which Thiel has confirmed “will not be made into a feature film,” has already gained over 5,000 views on YouTube in the two days since its posting.

Thiel, who runs media company Its Upshot, revealed: “The video was solely made as a UK tribute to the 1995 American classic Friday. There will be no feature film of Friday UK, but we hope people will enjoy this spinoff trailer and future clips that follow.”

Thiel’s foray into film came in the form of critically-acclaimed short Illegal Activity, which the 22-year-old released earlier this year. The action-packed drama set in a rough housing estate in London starred actors Richie Campbell and David Ajala as well as UK rappers Shystie and Sway.
