ANTI-RACISM BATTLE: Yaya Toure (PA)

YAYA TOURE has called on both Fifa and Uefa to “do their work” after claiming that CSKA Moscow fans racially abused by making monkey noises during a Champions League tie in Russia.

The 30-year-old Manchester City midfielder spoke in greater detail today about the incident following earlier remarks suggesting black players could boycott the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Asked if a boycott is still on the cards, Toure told the BBC: “We are not here yet. Let's leave Fifa and Uefa to do their work.”

The fallout from City’s 2-1 win over CSKA on Wednesday (October 23) has seen widespread condemnation from figures and anti-racism campaigners in the game.

Kick It Out (KIO) and Football Against Racism in Europe have criticised those responsible for failing to prevent racist chanting from fans – KIO chief Lord Ouseley said Uefa must ban Romanian match referee Ovidiu Hategan for not implementing 2009 protocol to help protect players from racial abuse, despite Toure complaining to the official.

Toure said: “Uefa has decided to do certain things. They have decided to apply the rules. That's all we want.

“A lot of things have been said about racism. If today an organisation and supporters stray from the straight path or slip up, the goal is to set them straight again.”

He added: “We are all humans. It is not a nice feeling to go and play a football match - to bring joy to the people - and to be called a monkey or to hear monkey noises.

“I don't look like a monkey. That's what disappoints me so much.”
