A CHELSEA supporter arrested for allegedly mocking Manchester United player Danny Welbeck with a ‘monkey’ taunt, has been released with no further action.

Numerous media outlets published an image of the accused, named on social media networks as Gavin Kirkham, making the offensive gesture during a football match between Chelsea and Manchester United on October 31.

The 28-year-old was subsequently arrested and released today (Dec 13).

“Following an investigation which included taking witness statements from those around him in the crowd and viewing CCTV footage, a decision was taken with the Crown Prosecution Service to proceed with no further action,” a Met spokesperson said.

“The Metropolitan Police Service takes any allegation of racist chanting and/or behaviour very seriously and if any matters are brought to our attention they will of course be thoroughly investigated,” they added.
