COOKING UP A STORM: Omari McQueen with his award

WHETHER HE’S cooking up a vegan storm for his YouTube channel, The Mari Maker Show, or handcrafting his cruelty-free range of dipping sauces, ten-year-old Omari McQueen is always working to help animals – and now, PETA is recognising his outstanding efforts with its prestigious Compassionate Kid Award.

Omari decided to go vegan at the age of eight after doing research for his YouTube channel.

According to his mother, Leah McQueen, he wanted to make delicious food that everyone could enjoy, and after learning about the way animals are treated in the meat, egg, and dairy industries, he decided that “he would never let an animal hurt for him again”.

“Omari’s innovative kitchen creations make it easier than ever for people to dip into a vegan lifestyle,” says PETA director Elisa Allen.

“His compassion and his determination to create a better world for animals are a wonderful example for other kids – and adults – to follow.”

Omari has received a framed certi cate and a T-shirt from PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that ‘animals are not ours to eat’.
