Adidas pulls ‘shackle’ trainer

CRITICISM: The Adidas JS Roundhouse Mids

SPORTS APPAREL makers Adidas have pulled a pair of trainers from sale following a number complaints made on social media websites and blogs.

The Adidas JS Roundhouse Mids were due to be sold in August but have now been cancelled as many have deemed the pair of trainers racially offensive for having bracelets attached to them that look like slavery shackles.

Activist Reverend Jessie Jackson was highly critical of Adidas prior to the cancellation of the trainers.

Jackson said in a statement: “The attempt to commercialise and make popular more than 200 years of human degradation, where blacks were considered three-fifths human by our Constitution is offensive, appalling and insensitive."

A statement from Adidas said: “The design of the JS Roundshouse Mid is nothing more than the designer Jeremy Scott's outrageous and unique take on fashion and has nothing to do with slavery.

"Since the shoe debuted on our Facebook page ahead of its market release in August, Adidas has received both favorable and critical feedback.

"We apologise if people are offended by the design and we are withdrawing our plans to make them available in the marketplace."
