Alicia Keys pays tribute to 'The Best’ Serena Williams

SUPPORT: Serena Williams and Alicia Keys

AHEAD OF the return of Wimbledon and as part of BBC’s #ChangeTheGame campaign, R&B star Alicia Keys has paid tribute to six-time winner Serena Williams.

Keys, speaking as part of BBC’s Legends series, said that she is in awe of her ‘sister’ Serena. She said: “The amount of power that is in that body and mind, is absolutely awe inspiring, you look at the human body in a whole new way when you watch Serena play.”

Williams will be returning to SW19 to try and clinch a seventh Wimbledon crown, three years on from her last win in 2016. Keys said that win or lose, the tennis pro remains an inspiration for people all around the world.

“To see a beautiful black woman like Serena making the moves she’s making, in a predominantly white sport, it really shows every little girl, every little boy, every young person, that there is no space we don’t belong.

“that’s what it means, I have a feeling that’s why she fights so hard and that’s one of her driving forces of being the best as it shows us, we are all the best, through her.”

Williams will be hoping for an upturn in fortunes going into the tournament, as she battles back from a knee injury that has seen her restricted to just 12 matches across the entire year, with a record of 12-3 in those games.

Despite the potential rust on court, Williams remains a favourite to take home the women’s crown for a seventh time.
