Andy Cole’s son 'racially abused' during youth game in Spain

RACISM INCIDENT: Devante Cole plays for Man City's youth side (PA)

FORMER MANCHESTER United striker Andy Cole only recently saw two men who racially abused him on a plane found guilty in court, but now his family is dealing with a new racism nightmare after his son Devante was allegedly subjected to racism while playing a youth match in Spain for Manchester City.

Devante is understood to have been racially abused by players and fans of Atletico Madrid in a Uefa Youth League game last week as he was representing City’s Elite Development Squad, managed by Patrick Vieira.

The 18-year-old centre-forward scored the game’s winning goal, but Uefa are now reportedly investigating racist incidents during the match in which it is claimed Devante was spat at too.

In response to media inquiries about the alleged racism Devante suffered, Uefa issued a statement about the game.

It said: “Disciplinary proceedings have been opened against Club Atletico de Madrid Youth for improper conduct of the team and racist behaviour of their supporters at the Uefa Youth League round of 16 match between Club Atletico de Madrid Youth and Manchester City FC Youth which was played on February 26, 2014, in Spain.

“The case will be dealt with by the Uefa Control and Disciplinary Body on March 20.”
