Angel: On his heavenly romance with music!

'WONDERFUL': Angel

IT CAN'T be easy being a heartthrob, but rising star Angel has decided that his music is the only love he needs in his life right now.

While thousands of his female fans, who affectionately call themselves his 'Angelites', will be glad to know that the only person their beloved is dating right is the studio, I could not help but wonder if the modest singer is secretly enjoying the all attention that comes with fame. I was even more curious to find out if his newly found status as a sex symbol has actually registered with him yet.

After an embarrassed laugh, he jokes: "I wouldn't say that I feel like a heartthrob, I just feel like I play my position when I appear!"

“One girl did tell me that she’d take a bullet for me and that was kind of crazy," he says after I relentlessly pursue the heartthrob line of questioning.

"But there are loads of sweet things, cute things, I'd be a fool to get into them but use your imagination," he adds.

Putting a swift end to my shameless investigation into his love life, he promises that he really is single – Angelites there is hope!

"I don't have a girlfriend. I do have girls as friends but not one person that I am holding down right now. I am young free and single and ready to mingle! " He adds: "No I'm joking, honestly I am going out with my music right now. Music is my wife, I am dating that studio!"

There is no doubt that the 24-year-old's romance with music is one that is going well, as his latest single Wonderful has taken the internet by storm raking up over half a million views just a few days after its release.

However, with over 15 years of performing under his belt it is no wonder the Island Records signing feels like his success has been 'a long time coming'.

"I am just happy that people are finally getting to recognise who Angel is. I did not necessarily feel like I wasn't getting the love I deserved before, I just feel like it was just a matter of time, so when I say 'finally' it just means that I have the chance to show the world what I can do now," he explains.

Adopting a more serious tone he adds: "Please get this down. The one thing I want the world to know is that tunes like Ride Out, Gleaming and my new song, How Can I Lose? are songs that I have written and physically produced with the hands that God gave me."

“I need to get that across because I went out the other day - and this is not the first time this has happened - but some guy came up to me and was like 'your camp is bad [good] and your producers are sick' and I was like, 'oh my God all the things you've heard I have produced myself.’ It kind of gets me a bit mad because I do this. This is what I do and I need people to know that."

Admitting that being 'misunderstood' has been a theme in his career, he tells me that from now on he is going to start filming when he is in the studio to show prove to fans and critics once and for all that he 'actually does this'.

Wonderful is out on July 29th through Island Records. For more on Angel visit: www.thisisangel.com
