Are these trainers racist?

"IGNORANT": Adidas JS Roundhouse Mids

SEVERAL POSTS on blogs and social media websites have deemed a pair of trainers racially offensive for having bracelets attached to them that look like slavery shackles.

The Adidas JS Roundhouse Mids, which will be released in August, include a pair of bright orange bracelets.

The sale slogan for the footwear is: “Got a sneaker game so hot you lock your kicks to your ankles?”

However, several online users are not impressed and have likened the bracelets to 19th Century shackles worn by slaves.

Some users called the trainers “offensive” and “ignorant”.

One Facebook user said: “It’s offensive and inappropriate in many ways. Not to mention ugly. Regardless if the company was saying the shoes are so hot you have to chain them to you, or they were capitalising on the whole prison style popularity, corporate business has a social responsibility above all to consider these perceptions before releasing a product like this.”
