Brit boys: (l-r) Malcolm Kamulete, Ashley Walters and Kano star in Top Boy
WELL-KNOWN for featuring contemporary dramas, Channel 4 presents its latest offering Top Boy; a four-part drama aired over four consecutive nights next week.
UK favourite Ashley Walters stars alongside Kane Robinson, better known as much-loved MC Kano in this gripping drama about life on a London estate.
Ra’Nell (Malcolm Kamulete) finds he has to “step up and be a man” when his mentally ill mother Lisa (Sharon Duncan Brewster) is suddenly hospitalized. At the same time his mum’s friend Heather (Kierston Wareing), pregnant and penniless, enlists the 13-year-old’s help in a dangerous plan she has concocted to give her baby the chances she never had.
Meanwhile, in the courtyards of Summerhouse Estate a thriving but invisible business is being run by Dushane (Walters) and his friend Sully (Kano). It isn’t long before charming, sexy and attracts the attention of ex-convict and drug dealer Bobby Raikes (Geoff Bell) and seizes an opportunity to be more, to have more – to be ‘Top Boy’.
But others will pay a heavy price for Dushane’s ambitions.
Featuring an ensemble cast of brilliant talent, Top Boy is Ronan Bennett’s new four-part drama about young lives lived on the edge.
Top Boy is on Channel 4 at 10pm from October 31
