UNWISE BET: Cameron Jerome probably will not be rushing back to the bookies after the FA took him for £50,000 (PA)
STOKE STRIKER Cameron Jerome will have to dig deep into his pockets after being slapped with a FA fine totalling £50,000 for breaching betting rules.
The 27-year-old front man was handed the reprimand once he admitted to falling foul of the regulations.
It has been confirmed he has not been charged with match fixing or betting on games in which he was involved.
In a statement, the FA said: “Cameron Jerome has been fined £50,000, subject to any appeal, following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing.
“Jerome, who was also severely warned as to his future conduct, admitted a number of breaches of the FA's Betting Rules and requested a personal hearing which took place on Tuesday August 13 2013.”
Jerome’s fine follows the FA making Tottenham full-back Andros Townsend pay £18,000 for breaking betting guidelines – he was punished in June and banned for four months, meaning he missed out on the ill-fated England Under-21 Euros campaign in Israel.
