BAFTA to host Stephen Lawrence screening

MEMORY: Public invited to special showcase of Panorama documentary on murdered teen, Stephen Lawrence

BAFTA WILL host a special screening of a documentary looking into the murder of teenager Stephen Lawrence.

The Panorama special, Stephen Lawrence: A Time For Justice, follows the tragic case of Stephen who was killed in a racist attack in 1993 and will be open to both BAFTA members and the public when it is screened on March 10.

The screening, which is in aid of the charity, The Stephen Lawrence Trust, will take place in BAFTA's central London headquarters and will be followed by a Q&A with Stephen's mother, Doreen, his brother, Stuart and lawyer, Imran Khan.

In January, 18 years after the crime that changed Britain, Gary Dobson, 36, and David Norris, 35, were sentenced to 15 years and 14 years respectively, for the racist murder.

A post screening discussion will be chaired by TV correspondent, Rageh Omaar, where the audience can debate the impact of institutionalised racism as well as the power of investigative TV to affect change.

Rageh Omaar said: “This is a very special screening and I’m proud to be chairing an event that can continue to support the important work of the Stephen Lawrence Trust, to help make a difference to young people in communities all over the UK.”

Tickets are priced at £10, with the opportunity to make additional donations.
