BANNED: Beyoncé

LONDON RADIO station BANG FM has banned the lyrics in Beyoncé's new song Drunk In Love from their airwaves claiming it goes against their company ethos by "displaying promotion of domestic violence against women."

In the song, the singer's husband Jay Z, who features on the track alongside the pop starlet, raps: "Eat the cake Anna Mae."

The lyrics derive from the film What’s Love Got To Do With It, the biopic of Tina Turner which catalogues her abusive relationship at the hands of ex husband Ike. The lyrics controversially imitate a scene of severe domestic violence within the film.

Jennifer Ogole, BANG Media and Entertainment, CEO, said: “We believe that all people, regardless of age, gender, sexuality or race should have the right to an enjoyable listen to our station, without the promotion of such morals.”

The offending track is taken from Beyoncé's recently-released self-titled album and shows the singer writhing semi-clad on a beach with Jay Z.

A spokesperson for the west London-based station, formerly known as Life FM, said: "BANG stands firm with their values, principles and passion for social justice. Respectful of what audiences want to hear on BANG Radio, Management believes this is the right action to take in regards to the controversial lyrics of the song and will continue to serve in social equality for people, through music and content on the station."

After the news was announced, Natasha Gibbons wrote on Facebook: "I'm glad about that and everyone else should. I found it so distasteful it just makes me angry, especially coming from a woman who copies/copied Tina's every move. I think neither of them know what the hell they were talking about on that song!"

The station's statement continued: "BANG Radio believes in the unity of women and music and in no way condones violence, domestic or otherwise, especially not through the power of music. The lyrics by Jay Z contradict BANG’s ethos and therefore, the decision has been made to wipe the stated lyrics from the song. "
