Bernie Grant Arts Centre launches Windrush Festival

THE BERNIE Grant Arts Cente have announced their first ever Windrush Festival, taking place June 13-27.

The two-week programme will highlight the contribution of the Windrush generation and their descendants with a seriies of artistic activities, performances, literature, music, workshops plus more, all culminating in a day of free outdoor events on June 22.

As the first festival programme under new artistic director Hannah Azieb Pool, she said: “The Windrush Festival is a chance to highlight the vast contribution of the Caribbean community in this country, while also creating space to explore what led to the injustices of the recent Windrush scandal.

“It’s a privilege to be able to create this in Tottenham which has benefited hugely from the art and creativity of the Windrush generation and their descendants.”

The festival will also include a conversation with MP David Lammy, composer Shirley j Thompson OBE who will be discussing the women of Windrush, a night of Reggaeoke, jam-packed with Reggae classics and much much more.
