Beyonce tops US album charts for third week in row

HOT ALBUM: Beyonce (PA)

QUEEN BEY continues her reign at the top of the US Billboard album charts 200 for a third consecutive week.

According to Nielsen SoundScan (via Billboard), the self-titled visual album, which features 14 songs and 17 music videos, shifted another 310,000 copies in the last week of December, adding to the already 374,000 sold in its second week.

Beyonce, which was exclusively released through iTunes, debuted with 617,000 and has become the music-downloading site's fastest selling album.

It moved 1.3 million units in its first 17 days of release in the U.S. and is the longest-running number one for any album since April 2013.

The Grammy Award-winning singer sailed to number five in the UK charts just 48 hours after she exclusively released the self-titled album on iTunes at midnight on Thursday (Dec 12), surprising fans, many of whom woke up to the news on Friday (Dec 13) morning.

The album sold a whopping 80,000 units in the first three hours causing the music site to crash. When the site was back up and running, fans discovered they were only able to buy the 14-song album and accompanying 17 music videos at the cost of £9.99, instead of having the option to purchase songs individually.

It is an impressive feat considering the singer released no official radio singles, physical copies on shelves, any promotion or pre-announcement.
