EVENTS: Windrush 70 celebrations to take place in Birmingham

JUNE 22 2018 marks the 70th anniversary since the arrival of the ship MV Empire Windrush that brought workers from Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago Barbados and other islands to the UK. In aid of this generation, the UK reflects on the remarkable contributions made by Caribbean migrants by celebrating across the UK.

One of the major cities hosting various celebratory events is Birmingham. See below some of the tea parties, lectures, and events available to attend.

WHAT: BME NURSES TEA PARTY

Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, in partnership with the BAME Staff Network at UoB, Recognize Black Heritage & Culture, Unison West Midlands & RCN West Midlands are pleased to announce the Windrush 70th Caribbean Nurses celebration event.This event honours Caribbean nurses (present day & retired) and we request the pleasure of your company to celebrate the Windrush 70th anniversary.

WHAT: WINDRUSH 70 BIRMINGHAM PUBLIC SERVICE DAY

The Public Service Day will highlight the contribution made by the Windrush Generation to Public Service which also includes Transport, Local Government, Civil Service and More.

​There will be various displays from all of the listed services from the Windrush era and also modern including vehicles and equipment.

This is an all day rolling event with the opening ceremony at 12 noon.
