COMMENTS: Bishop Paul Morton

BISHOP PAUL Morton has become the first leading black minister to publicly call for Bishop Eddie Long to apologise and openly confess what really happened between himself and four young men, who issued a lawsuit accusing him of sexual misconduct.

Bishop Long, who leads New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta, recently settled the case behind closed doors in mediation and it’s reputed he paid $15million in compensation.

Bishop Paul Morton, pastor of Changing a Generation Baptist Church in Atlanta gave his rebuke on Fathers’ Day. He said: “If the settlement has already been made they can't sue you again, but you can apologise. Some people will stay with you, some people gonna leave you, but you've got to leave that up to God. Those are the consequences for the sins that we do.”

Morton posted his comments on the internet.

He quoted Luke 17:3-4 in his rebuke, saying: “If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him” (v. 3). “I'm rebuking him today. That's what the Bible told me to do. … I've got the power to do that. Here's what the Bible says: If he repents, forgive him. I can't forgive somebody that does not repent.”

Morton added Long should not worry about what people will think. “God can turn your situation around and give you a second chance; just repent! … Just let the body of Christ know. Don't just ignore the situation.”
