Black actors win big at The Critics Choice Awards

WINNER: Viola Davis

ON SUNDAY night, the 22nd Critics Choice Awards took place in California and some of our favourite actors took top honours at the award ceremony!

The annual event officially kicks off the awards season and honours the finest in cinematic and television achievement.

This year, Donald Glover took home the award for Best Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in the successful FX show Atlanta. Speaking on his win, Glover said: "I just want to thank FX for letting us do what we wanted to do and not being like that's nuts, you can't do that."

Viola Davis pulled double duty and won two awards for Best Supporting Actress in the upcoming movie Fences and the "See Her" Award.

Other winners included actor Mahershala Ali, who accepted the Best Supporting Actor award for Moonlight and the cast of the critically-acclaimed film also won Best Acting Ensemble.
