Black entrepreneurs celebrated at award ceremony

CELEBRATED: BE Mogul Awards

A GLITTERING award ceremony celebrating the contribution of black British entrepreneurs took place at Natwest building in London last week (Nov 22).

The ceremony, hosted by BE Mogul, champions business owners not normally showcased and recognised by the mainstream media.

With over 200 people in attendance, including MOBO Award founder Kanya King MBE, thh second annual ceremony including various winners and guests and was created by business expert Mavis Amankwah after
she realised there was a need in the market.

Mavis herself has won over 15 awards for her work, and she wanted a platform that celebrated the achievements of black business owners in the UK.

She said: “BE Mogul provides a platform for positive business role models, who may not have been recognised in the mainstream media, to inspire and encourage others. We want to shout loud and proud about the positive economic contribution black-owned businesses are making in Britain today.”

On the night, official messages of support came from the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan and Kelly Tolhurst MP, as well as celebrity endorsements from June Sarpong and Levi Roots.

“It was an honour and privilege to share the evening with so many inspiring individuals and businesses. I was humbled to be recognised,” said Mercy Geker, HR Consultant at On Target Solutions HR.

“To have an award event such as Be Mogul showcasing and celebrating African and Caribbean businesses and entrepreneurs is motivating and a great step in changing the narrative presented by major media outlets. In one word a magnificent evening.”

Vernette John-Joiles, founder of 7D Web Design added: "As a black business owner, it was an honour and quite humbling to receive recognition of my work as a winner of the Be Mogul Award for 2018. A lot of business strategy involves consideration about how we present and brand ourselves online, so things are becoming a lot more competitive digitally.

"I put in a lot of work to stay relevant and connected with my clients and how to be a source of advice and information when it comes to building and maintaining an great online presence."
