Black Londoner teaches Bulgarians how to style Afro hair

MENSAH: Success in Europe

AN AWARD-winning London hairstylist and businesswoman was invited to a Bulgarian hair salon to teach Europeans how to style Afro hair.

Charlotte Mensah, 41, from Notting Hill in west London, went to the Trinity Sport & Beauty Center, the first salon in Bulgaria to offer world-class Afro hairstyling.

Mensah, who has trained other Europeans on styling Afro hair, told The Voice: "There were no hair shops in Bulgaria for Afro-Caribbean hair, which meant the black women would have to travel from Bulgaria to London, Paris, US or any where else they could get there hair done."

The hair salon is now booming in the most unlikely of locations.

Mensah, who is also the founder and owner of the prestigious Hair Lounge Salon on the iconic Portobello Road in Notting Hill, added: “There's never been a very professional salon and these women are high maintenance and they would have no choice but to keep their hair in for more than six months.”

A stylist to VIPs from all over the world, including Hollywood stars, world-famous musicians, politicians and businesswomen, Mesah is also the author of a column in the Black Hair magazine.

Her models regularly appear on the covers of magazines such as, Black Beauty and Hair, Pride, African Woman, Sophisticated Black Hair, and Canoe.
