Black Stars take on Super Eagles

AFRICA UNITE: Black stars to take on the Super Eagles

WATFORD’S VICARAGE Road Stadium will play host to a Ghana – Nigeria friendly international on August 9.

The African ‘derby’ is a replay of their meeting four years ago when the Black Stars put the Super Eagles to the sword with a convincing 4-1 win.

Match organsiser Justin Addo, speaking at a press conference held at the Ghana High Commission said: “There is a huge Nigerian and Ghanaian community in the UK and other parts of Europe who are keen on this game and we will make things easy for them to be able to bring their friends and families to the game.

“Even though the game will be played in England, people in Africa are also interested in coming to watch the match while those who will stay home want to see the game.”

Also in attendance at the High Commission were Ghana captain John Mensah and High Commissioner Kweku Danso Boafo.

Ghana have taken over Nigeria’s mantle as the top football nation on the continent. They are now ranked 15th in the world while Nigeria are 39th.

This eagerly awaited match will see English Premier League players go head-to-head. Nigeria will rely on the likes of John Obi Mikel and Peter Odemwingie.

Ghana will have Mikel’s Chelsea team mate, Michael Essien, back in their ranks and will also include Sunderland duo Mensah and goal poacher Asamoah Gyan.

The Black Stars, having shone at last year’s World Cup in South Africa, confirmed their quality with a merited 1-1 draw against Fabio Capello’s England at Wembley in March.

The Ghana – Nigeria fixture will kick off at 8pm.
