A BOXER is currently undergoing hospital treatment after he collapsed in the ring on Thursday (March 28).
Michael Norgrove, 31, was reported by BoxRec to have suffered a suspected bleed on the brain, causing him to lose consciousness at The Ring boxing club in Southwark, south London.
Fighting in the light-middleweight weight class, Zambia-born Norgrove was competing in his sixth professional bout when the incident occurred.
Robert Smith, the general secretary of the British Boxing Board of Control, said: “[Mr Norgrove] was taken ill during the course of his contest.
“He was taken to hospital, he’s being treated and is in a stable condition.
“It’s very early days and we shouldn’t speculate on anything at all.”
The boxer was taken to The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, east London.
