Britain's oldest black bookshop celebrates Windrush 70

EVENT: New Beacon Books

ON SATURDAY 16 June, New Beacon Books in Finsbury Park, north London will present their Summer African & Caribbean Market celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Windrush.

Enjoy Windrush inspired performances and stories, and view archive material and memorabilia courtesy of the George Padmore Institute.

Showcasing original products inspired by African and Caribbean culture from local businesses and entrepreneurs, featuring clothing, accessories, jewellery, Arts & Crafts, homeware, natural health products and much more in their indoor and outdoor garden market.

Calypsonian, Alexander D Great will be launching his new albums, After the Windrush and Portraits and Tributes which honors unsung heroes of the African Caribbean diaspora. He will be performing a selection of songs from both albums.

Reggae artist, Barry Dread said: “I was the first person from my family to be born in England, so my spirit always resonates within I and that’s why I choose to be apart of this event.”

Authors, Stephen Bourne, Nia Reynolds and Anthony Cookson will also be at the event talking about their books based around the Windrush era.

What better way to celebrate the unbelievable contributions made by the Windrush generation!
