Burke to join Jamaica champions on loan

PICTURED: Cory Burke

CORY BURKE, the international striker who hasn't played for MSL outfit Philadelphia Union since April because he is awaiting a new US visa, will next week join Jamaica Red Stripe Premier champions Portmore United on loan.

Having missed the recent Jamaica's CONCACAF Gold Cup campaign because of US visa problems, Burke had been training with Portmore United after a series of overseas opportunities fell through.

He will join the club following Jamaica's CONCACAF Nations League match on Monday (Sept 9). And he was part of the squad that dismantled Antigua & Barbuda in Montego Bay last night (Sept 6).

Burke last played at club level during the Union’s comprehensive 3-0 triumph over Montreal Impact, where he was on target, on April 20.

He rejoined Union team-mate and Boyz skipper Andre Blake for the national training camp ahead of their back-to-back Nations League ties.

Portmore United head coach Shavar Thomas, an ex-Philadelphia Union player, has captured the league title in both of his seasons at the helm as well as the Caribbean Club Championship in May so should be a perfect fit for Burke to sharpen his skills.
