Campaign launches to increase diversity in children’s books

THE UK children’s book industry are taking a stand to improve diversity by setting up a branch of We Need Diverse Books to improve diversity and representation.

We Need Diverse Books is a US-based nonprofit organisaton which advocates for diversity in the publishing industry.

The UK counterpart hopes to bring together partners across the publishing industry to improve representation both with staff and output.

Aimée Felone, co-founder of inclusive publisher Knights Of said: “ As a publisher, we are told we are doing good things [to improve diversity and representation] but we are not doing enough as an industry. Publishers want there to be more collaboration.”

Speaking to The Bookseller Felon said We Need Diverse Books UK will hopefully become a charity and the organisation is currently looking for someone to lead it, as well as people with expertise in admin, marketing and fundraising, and social media.

The We Need Diverse Books UK team are currently looking for volunteers to give their time for a defined period such as three months.
