CARIBBEAN FEVER: These ladies get into the party mood with their version of the line dance at the Friends of the Caribbean summer ball

The Friends of the Caribbean association celebrated a year of successful community work with their seventh annual grand summer ball in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire on July 12.

Those who attended the prestigious event at the Double Tree Hilton ballroom were treated to a superb night of entertainment led by singer J C Lodge and The Legends band.

The patron of the FOTC Revd Rose Hudson-Wilkin reported to the packed ballroom that the work carried out by the charity over the past 12 months have been a success. She highlighted the mentoring scheme and the health forums which assisted young people in improving their skills, and promoted healthy living amongst the older community members.

In her address, Claudette Murrell, chair person, outlined her vision for the charity during her tenure. She listed getting more young people involved with the association through the mentoring scheme and reaching out to the old age pensioners within the community as her priorities. Claudette also hopes to increase the membership of the association from the wider Caribbean Diaspora by holding more events during the year.

Jamaican songstress J C Lodge opened the entertainment segment by putting on a masterful show as she belted some of her popular hits including ‘Someone Loves You’, Can’t get Over losing You’ and the long-lasting ‘Telephone Love’. Her wide repertoire included soul ballads, lovers rock and reggae style.

The main act for the night was The Legends band on stage doing a special tribute to Bob Marley led by lead singer Michael Anton Phillips. Popular Marley anthems including ‘Get Up Stand Up’, ‘Waiting In Vain’, ‘Jamming’ and ‘Is This Love’ had the patrons on their feet right from the start. It culminating with ‘Mr Fixit’ providing the dancing music to the end.
