Casting call for N.W.A biopic branded ‘shadist’ and ‘sexist’

A CASTING call notice for the upcoming N.W.A biopic, which favoured lighter skinned hopefuls, has caused widespread outrage online.

The highly-anticipated notice for Straight Outtta Compton, which will tell the story of how a group of young rappers revolutionised music and pop culture, categorised female extras by the skin tone.

Sande Alessi Casting Company separated women into four categories – A, B, C and D – each with specific, and very offensive guidelines.

From the "hottest of the hottest" girls with "great bodies," to the "fine" girls who "should be light-skinned," right down to the girls who are " poor and not in good shape" with "medium to dark skin tone."

The casting call, which has since been deleted, was branded shadiest and sexist.

One angered Facebook user said: “You must be out of your mind putting a Casting Call As like the one in this link. Racist much??

“It seems the current Hip Hop Industry has done more to destroy blacks than the KKK ever could.”

The company has since issued an apology to TMZ, calling the blunder an “innocent mistake” and when it comes to casting the "poor" people, they're also looking for women of various skin tones and body types.

In response to claims that the A,B,C,D grouping system was racist, Sande Alessi Casting said it's the "usual method" they use to look for different types of people for any project and it "wasn't meant to offend anyone."

Last month, founding member Ice Cube announced that the upcoming film will be released in August 2015.

The biopic, produced by Cube and fellow former N.W.A member Dr. Dre, along with Tomica Woods-Wright, the widow of fellow N.W.A rapper Eazy-E, will tell "the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionised music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war," Universal Pictures said.

Dr Dre and Eazy E will be played by newcomers Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell, while Ice Cube's son O'Shea Jackson, Jr, will take on the role of his father.
