Celebrating Windrush 70 with RHS Chelsea Flower Show

INSPIRED: Floella Benjamin

THIS YEAR celebrates the 70th Anniversary of the arrival of the Windrush in Britain.

To mark this anniversary, Baroness Floella Benjamin, Patron of the Windrush Foundation is creating a display at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show to recognise and celebrate the legacy of the Windrush Generation.

The display aims to capture the pioneering spirit of these passengers and Baroness Benjamin wants young people to help with the display by sending in pictures of the following:

- What they think life was like in the Caribbean in the 1940’s (e.g. the weather, flags, cricket, houses, flowers, food, clothes, music etc)

- What the journey could’ve been like for the passengers aboard the ship the Empire Windrush

- What Britain was like when the pioneers arrived in 1948 (e.g transport, adverts, houses, fashion, food etc)

- What was life like in Britain in the 1940’s.

The selected pictures will be used around the edge of the display, so will need to be A4, flat but can be black and white or colour, collages or drawings.

The best 100 will feature on the display and will be chosen by Baroness Floella Benjamin and the design team.

The closing date for entires is the April 16, 2018.

If anyone wishes to enter, they will need to send their creations to:
