Charity dinner to raise funds for Cyclone Idai victims

CYCLONE IDAI: Charity dinner will raise funds for victims of the tropical storm

IN MARCH of this year, a tropical storm ravished parts of Africa and the Southern Hemisphere. Cyclone Idai was one of the most devastating disasters to hit Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe, claiming 1300 lives with thousands more missing.

BBJMC, a management corporation, will be joining forces with the Newham Rotary Club and Zimbabwe Diaspora to host a fundraising dinner with proceeds supporting those directly affected by Cyclone IDAI in Zimbabwe.

The dinner, which takes place on September 13 2019 at Stratford Town Hall, 29 Broadway Stratford, E15, 4BQ from 7pm to 1am, promises to be an occasion not to miss, with special guests including ambassadors and high commissioners from Zimbabwe as well as MPs representatives and representatives from Newham Council.

Doreen Hodges, BBJMC director, who is hosting the fundraiser, feels that the event is very necessary as it the proceeds are going to a good cause.

“Last year we did a fundraiser for Dominica, which was affected by hurricanes,” said Hodges.

She added: “As a result of that we were approached by Cllr Joy Laguda MBE to work in partnership with the named organisations to put on a fundraiser dinner with the proceeds of it going towards the rebuilding of the NHS, schools and health care facilities in Zimbabwe where many lost their lives while others still remain unaccounted for.”

Those attending the dinner can expect raffle prizes, creative dance performances from MZAMBEZI Arts along with music and entertainment from Deoba Authentic and Tahira Jumah and Lascelles James to name a few.

Tickets can be purchased via eventbrite.

If you are unable to attend but would like to still support the cause through personal donations, please contact Doreen Hodges on 07956 613624 or Beverley Crichlow on 07956 433 639.
