Chidera Eggerue, Nimco Ali and more on BBC’s 100 Women List

The BBC has revealed the names of the trailblazing women on its 100 Women List.

The list, which celebrates inspirational women across the globe – from high profile names to unsung heroes.

The women featured on this year’s list include those at the top of their careers across a variety of sectors including finance, politics, law, sport, charity, science and the arts.

The list also recognises activists, campaigners and those who have responded to extraordinary challenges in their own lives by making real change in the world around them.

The women on the list range in age from 15 to 94, and are from more than 60 countries are featured on the list, including for the first time women from Belize, Cuba, Czech Republic, El Salvador, Laos and Namibia.

Writer and activist Nimco Ali has been recognised by the BBC this year. Ali, the co-founder and director of Daughters of Eve, a UK campaign charity dedicated to ending violence against women and girls in particular female genital mutilation (FGM).

On Twitter she thanked her supporters and those campaigning to end FGM.

Chidera Eggerue aka The Slumflower is also on the list this year. Eggerue, a best-selling author, has gained worldwide recognition for her body positivity social media movement #saggyboobsmatter.

Other inspirational women on the list include Abisoye Ajayi-Akinfolarin. Ajayi-Akinfolarin, a social impact entrepreneur from Nigeria, is the founder of GirlsCoding, a non-governmental organisation that teaches girls how to code, design and build websites that help solve problems in their communities; Barbara Burton, the CEO of BehindBras, an organisation that helps women who have left prison to develop skills for careers in the fashion industry. Burton set up BehindBras after she spent some time in prison in her late 50s and Bola Tinubu, a corporate lawyer who set up the first free helpline for children in Nigeria.
