Convicted Collymore abuser spared jail

BROADCASTER: Collymore

LAW STUDENT John Cryer has been found guilty of sending several racist messages to a former professional footballer via social networking site Twitter.

TalkSport broadcaster Stan Collymore – who played for Crystal Palace Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, to name a few – was the victim of numerous racist tweets sent by Cryer.

The 21-year-old Cryer, who studies law at Newcastle University, was told to undertake a two-year community order with 240 hours of unpaid work and to pay £150 to the Newcastle Magistrates’ Court.

Cryer was arrested in January after Collymore reported him to the Staffordshire Police.

After the sentencing, Collymore tweeted: "Would like to thank Northumbria & Staffordshire Police for their professionalism in dealing with this case."
