BOXING: Sylvester Stallone (left) with Michael B Jordan in Creed
ALTHOUGH the Michael B Jordan-starring film, Creed, did not nab the US weekend box office top spot, the boxing drama did experience a victory.
According to The Wrap, the movie made history with the highest grossing opening in the 39-year-old, six-sequel franchise.
The Rocky reboot came in at No.3, racking up a whopping $42.6 million in ticket sales in the first five days and $30.1 million in the first three.
The budget for the MGM/New Line Cinema installment was just $35 million, according to Bossip.
Following its success, Jordan said he would be game up to playing his character again in a sequel.
“A character so rich as this, and the world he’s in, I want to see what happens to him next and what he does,” Jordan said.
“Especially the way it ends off, it’s pretty cool. I think with success and time and circumstances, it would be exciting to come back and work with [co-stars] Sly [Stallone] and Tessa [Thompson] again.”
The new movie saw Stallone return as Balboa, this time serving as a mentor to Jordan’s character, the son of Balboa’s former nemesis Apollo Creed.
Creed was directed by Ryan Coogler, who previously directed Jordan in critically acclaimed Fruitvale Station.
