Denzel Washington one of '10 most overpaid actors’

OVERPAID: Denzel Washington (PA)

HOLLYWOOD LEADING man Denzel Washington is one of Tinsel Town’s “most overpaid actors”, according to Forbes magazine.

The publication looked at salaries paid to 100 of the biggest stars in the film industry and compared their wages to the total profit made by their last three films.

It found that the Training Day leading man has seen his films’ takings dwindle of late.

The annual compilation claimed Washington returns $6.90 for every $1 he is paid – a return which puts him at number eight on the top-ten list.

“Washington can demand a huge salary so his films have to hit it out of the ballpark for him to offer a good return”, the magazine said

“Lately, his films have done fine but not outstanding.”

His last three films are Flight (2012), 2 Guns (2013), and this year’s release The Equalizer.

Comedian Adam Sandler was judged to represent the lowest return for studios – total profit from his three last films showed him to make back $3.20 for every $1.

The top ten of Forbes most overpaid actors comprises four stars known for their comedy work and six stars who are known better for serious drama and action roles, including Washington.

Gravity heroine Sandra Bullock is the only woman who made the list.
