LEGEND: Diana Ross to be honoured at the Grammy

LEGENDARY SINGER Diana Ross will receive a Lifetime Achievement award at this weekend's Grammy, it has been announced.

Although the 67-year-old Baby Love star has been nominated for a total of 12 awards in her 50-year career, the gong will mark her first Grammy.

"She was a trailblazer who wrote chapter after chapter, who put herself at the center of the conversation and demanded a seat at the table," Mark Bradford, who is a researcher at the Museum of Modern Art, which houses photography of pop's icons, told LA Times.

He added: "She didn't want black power. She wanted power."

Ross, who has inspired many of today's pop artists, will receive her gong at an invite-only gala on the eve of the ceremony.

"Without Ms. Ross, the '80s era of Whitney, Mariah and Madonna — not to mention Michael Jackson and Prince — and the '90s and '00s eras of hip-hop soul, neo soul and retro-soul women, would surely look quite different," Daphne A. Brooks, professor at Princeton university told the newspaper.

She will receive the award as part of her role in The Supremes and as a solo artist.
