BLACK HISTORY: Paris' Louvre Museum houses one of the largest collections of Egyptian antiquities after the Cairo Museum

A BLACK history organisation is hosting a trip to Paris next month to help people discover the "rich black history of Paris".

The Black History Study's Black Paris Weekend will visit the French capital for Black History Month from Oct 2-4 2015.

The trip will explore the rich black history of Paris at many of the most famous landmarks in the European city.

During the tour, the Black History Study group will visit one of the world's largest museums, the historic Louvre, and view the African presence in European art represented there.

Paris was the centre of both literary and artistic movements and a colonial empire. After World War I, many African Americans remained or returned to Europe, and over the next three decades, created an expatriate community of musicians, entertainers, dancers, writers and entrepreneurs.

Black History Studies was launched in 2008 by husband and wife team Mark and Charmaine Simpson because "we noticed that our community wanted to learn about their history from an African perspective but there were no real outlet offering a range of learning opportunities."
