UPLIFTING: DJ Neptune says his Afrobeats sound is good for the soul

Life & Style: What can we expect from your album Greatness?
DJ Neptune: Expect nothing but great music you can relate to on different levels; sweet music and unbelievable collaborations with some of the biggest African artists topping the Afro-beats scene.

L&S: How would you describe your sound?
DJN: My sound is Afro and very uplifting and I believe that is one of the major things good music does to the soul.

Basically, my sound is Afrobeats, a combination of West African sound and American jazz, with few elements of sound from different genres.

L&S: Who are you inspired by, in a musical sense? And on a more personal level, who are you inspired by?
DJN: Musically that would be Funkmaster Flex and DJ Khaled because of their work-ethic and success in everything they have been doing. On a personal level, Jay-Z and P Diddy.

L&S: What has been major highlight or memorable moment in your career so far?
DJN: A memorable highlight for me was when I got nominated for best world DJ at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards in New York City in 2008 and also getting the opportunity to travel to Malaysia that same year to perform to a different non-African audience.

L&S: And what is something you would like to achieve in the future?
DJN: The one thing I would love to achieve in the future is getting my work and brand known all around the world, hence why I don’t see myself as an ordinary Afrobeats DJ. I play different genres of music and if given the opportunity I can perform to any audience.

L&S: If there was one message you would want people to take away as a listener to your music, what would that be?
DJN: To be happy. After listening to music from the album Greatness, I am 100 per cent convinced you will smile and be happy that you invested your time in listening to music. You will not be disappointed.
