Domino rivals looking to knock spots off each other

POPULAR: The sport of dominoes

DOMINO RIVALS are looking to knock spots of each other over the next few months. Western Union have recently announced that they will be sponsors of one of the Jamaica 5oth Celebrations premier events, the National Domino League, which is also the celebration of the Anglo Caribbean Domino League’s (ACDL) 20 years in existence.

As Jamaica’s 50th Independence celebrations kick into gear and the official calendar begins to roll out, the National Domino League will invite domino players throughout the four corners of the UK to enter the competition and participate in the camaraderie of a great Jamaican community-building exercise – playing dominoes.

In such a significant year for the UK - Jamaica’s 50th, the Olympics and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee - the ACDL in its 20th year is honoured and privileged to have been commissioned by the Jamaican High Commission to host this event.

"Jamaicans and the wider Caribbean diaspora, will be truly spoilt for choice this year and I hope everyone will sort out their diaries to ensure that they do not miss out on any event," said the chairperson of the ACDL, Anita Witter.

She added: "The ACDL members are a vibrant mix of men and women, young, middle-aged and senior citizens from different part of the Caribbean, but all sing the same tune of social activities, dominoes! This event, however is open to all domino teams, the length and breadth of the UK.

"The major difference from the ACDL is that the National Domino League is using the 'mental' form of domino playing rather than the ACDL’s 'coded' form."

Western Union, the tournament's main sponsors, have been faithful over the years along with 90th anniversary celebrants, Grace Foods; the main co-sponsor of the National Domino League.

The ACDL through the National Domino League event is delighted to ensure that their sponsors’ products and services are projected to the UK Caribbean community throughout the UK.

The organisers are expecting at least 40 clubs to participate in this tournament, covering four regions nationally.
