BROTHERS: Abidal, left, says Dani Alves offered to donate his liver to him
MONACO DEFENDER Eric Abidal has claimed former team-mate Dani Alves at Barcelona offered to donate his liver to him before undergoing surgery.
The 34-year-old France international required a liver transplant in April, and the full-back revealed the incredible bond he shares with the Brazilian player.
Abidal told Catalunya Radio: “My relationship with Dani goes much further than him taking my old No.22 shirt.
“When I had to undergo surgery, he offered to donate his liver.”
He added: “Of course, it’s completely out of the question because he is a professional footballer.
“Our relationship goes much deeper than friendship.”
After having the successful operation, Abidal has regained full-fitness, but Barcelone decided not to renew his contract.
Abidal recently claimed the Spanish giants did not pay for medical costs after the treatment and that he would still be at the club if Pep Guardiola had not left.
Abidal was signed by Monaco and has re-established himself in the French national team, predominantly playing at centre-back.
