THE FAMILY of a young woman who died on holiday in Europe is fighting to bring her body back to London so they can bury her.

On Tuesday June 25 2019, Anita and her friends travelled to Mykonos, Greece, for a celebratory girls’ trip. The group stayed at Alex Hotel booked via Booking.com. On the morning of Sunday June 30, Anita’s mother received a call from one of her friends informing her that her daughter had been found dead in her hotel room bed.

After the discovery of Anita's body, the three friends she was holidaying with instructed the hotel manager to call an ambulance and the police. Emergency services arrived at the scene but unfortunately, there was nothing they could do as Anita had already passed.

Following a series of unanswered correspondence to the Greek police from Anita’s family, Anita’s mother, Amuwa Igiehon, went to the Greek foreign office in London to find out further information regarding her daughter’s death. She was turned away because she did not book an appointment.

Distressed and now increasingly frustrated, Anita’s mother contacted their local MP in the hope of gaining some insight into the current situation in Greece, and when they will be able to bring her daughter home.

It has been nearly a month since Anita, a healthy 29-year-old with no pre-existing health conditions, passed. The circumstances under which she died remain unknown. As a result, her family’s fight to try and gather answers about her death continue.

Unfortunately, Anita did not have travel insurance so her family set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for her repatriation to the UK and funeral: https://www.gofundme.com/f/fundraising-for-the-repatriation-of-anitas-body

The family are urged people to support the fundraiser so they and others that knew and loved Anita can finally begin to grieve, say their goodbyes and give her the peace she deserves.
