FORMER JAMAICAN Prime Minister Edward Seaga has been hospitalised in Miami, Florida.

The news was confirmed by Seaga’s family, after his wife Carla released a statement this week. In the statement, she thanked “everyone for their love, prayers and support for my husband who has been ill and who is receiving medical treatment in Florida.”

She said he is “receiving excellent medical care and is sustained too by the love of his family and friends.”

“We continue to pray for him and support him in his present stable environment. God bless Jamaica.”

Mr Seaga was the Prime Minister of Jamaica from 1980 to 1989, after he famously won a landslide victory over Michael Manley’s People’s National Party (PNP) in the October 1980 General Elections.

He also served in the JLP administration in the 1960s and currently serves as Chancellor of the University of Technology (UTech), where he was reappointed to a three-year term with effect from November 17, 2017.

He will be 89 years old on May 28.
