Get Out scoops gong at British Independent Film Awards

BOX OFFICE SMASH: British-Nigerian actor Daniel Kaluuya, in a movie-still.

MODERN-CLASSIC movie Get Out continued its winning streak at the annual British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) last night (10 September) at a star-studded London ceremony. Both of the film's stars, Daniel Kaluuya and Allison Williams, were present to collect the award for one of 2017's most popular flicks.

The Special Jury Prize was presented to Femi Oguns MBE, founder of Identity School of Acting and Identity Agency Group. Having represented Hollywood cross-over talent such as Letitia Hector, John Boyega and Malachi Kirby, Oguns was praised for ‘his trailblazing work in tackling the lack of diversity on screens and absence of opportunity for BAME talent’.

Naomi Ackie scooped the 'Most Promising Newcomer' award for her role in Lady Macbeth (2016).
