Gina Miller reveals she was raped in attack as student

ATTACKED: Gina Miller says she was left feeling really lonely after what happened

ANTI-BREXIT CAMPAIGNER Gina Miller has revealed that she was raped during an attack by a group of men.

Miller, who was a student at the University of East London at the time, was attacked by the men as she made her way to Mile End Underground station.

She told The Mail on Sunday’s You magazine: “I went into shock. It took me a long time to come to terms with what happened. I hid in my bedroom for weeks; I couldn’t even think about leaving the room, which was safe. I felt really lonely.”

In her soon-to-be-released memoir, the 53-year-old says the ambush left her feeling “dirty” and “violated” but she does not use the word rape.

Rachel Johnson, who interviewed Miller for the feature in the magazine, directly asked the businesswoman if she was raped. In response Johnson wrote that Miller’s “eyes meet mine and she sighs and nods”.

The mother-of-three has faced death threats and horrific abuse since she was catapulted into the public eye with her Brexit vote campaign. She was the lead claimant in the case that challenged the government’s ability to exit the EU without Parliament’s approval.

Writing in The Guardian last year, Miller said that the court had not handed her a victory. She wrote: “The victors of the ruling were our constitution, our laws and, I would argue, our way of life.”

The threats she has faced in the wake of her campaigning and the high court’s ruling have forced Miller and her family to live under tight security.

The abuse has also impacted how comfortable she feels in public. Miller said she panics when she sees people coming towards her with bottles of water, fearing that they will throw acid in her face.
