How this entrepreneur is helping young creatives thrive

GIVING BACK: Sebastian Thiel

THE FOUNDER of award-winning British TV and production company, Its Upshot, is giving back in a major way.

Sebastian Thiel wants to leave a mark on hearts and minds through mindful content and in his quest to do that he’s offering 50 creatives that chance to get professionals videos made for just £50.

The 50 Uprise drive “will give creatives of all kinds the opportunity to have a professional video shot and edited at a price that is unheard of”.

"We know how frustrating it is when money comes in the way of great art," Thiel said. "We are offering to shoot 50 videos, for 50 creatives for only £50 and our quality doesn't drop with the pricing," he said.

"You get a platinum service for just 50 pounds,” he said. “And we will devote the same love, attention and detail to each video that we always do."

But the is one small catch.

"The quality has to be mindful," Thiel said. "It cannot be disruptive to others. Other than that, you can do whatever you want. It could be for you or it could be for your brand. You could be an actor, a magician, a comedian, artist, or a dancer. It doesn't matter what you do, it just needs to be complete in 50 minutes."

Thiel explained that the drive wasn't "cost effective" for him or his company, but stressed "we are extremely passionate about bringing a positive balance to our culture and investing in those who are creating to elevate."

Upshot Entertainment stands as one of the leaders in its field producing cutting edge films, documentaries and sketches, which expertly showcase the company’s directing, writing and production skills with his innovative ideas.

In 2012, Thiel released his directorial debut, legal Activity, which won Upshot Entertainment its first bit of silverware for his display cabinet after it was named ‘Favourite Film’ at the inaugural Screen Nation Digital-iS Media Awards.

The annual awards were set up to “highlight a new born media maker that can simply wake up write, cast and fund a project online.”

The short film was also screened at the BAFTA 195, Google headquarters and at Warner Brothers studios.

Upshot Entertainment’s YouTube page has over 20,000 subscribers and boasts 7.8 million views, while it has a further 30,000 followers on social media sites.

But entertainment production isn’t the only string on Upshot Entertainment’s bow. One of its most pertinent aims is nurturing and investing in youth development.

Much like Virgin founder and entrepreneur Richard Branson, who made Sebastian a Virgin Media Pioneer in 2012, he has concerned himself with becoming a social enterprise.

"We work with forward-thinking people, brands and charities to create content. In the process we train & develop the next generation of creative talents," Thiel said.
