SILENCING THE CRITICS: Balotelli

HAVING ONLY just returned to Italy at the end of January, AC Milan’s Mario Balotelli has once again been the victim of a racist incident.

A section of supporters belonging to Balotelli’s former club Inter Milan directed racist chants at the striker of Ghanaian heritage during the
Nerazzurri’s Serie A fixture against Chievo at the San Siro on February 10.

Inter Milan president Massimo Morrati apologised for the action of the fans and pleaded for a similar episode not to take place at the Milan derby on February 24.

Moratti told Inter’s official website: “I was told about it because I couldn't make out clearly what they were saying. I'm very sorry about that.

"I'm very sorry and I really hope it doesn't happen during the derby."

It was the second time that the Italian international Balotelli – who joined AC Milan from Premier League outfit Manchester City for £19m on January 31 – was at the centre of a racist controversy.

While speaking at a political meeting, Paolo Berlusconi, the younger brother of AC Milan president and former Italian president Silvio Berlusconi, had labelled Balotelli as “the family’s little ni**er”.

Since returning to Italy Balotelli has scored three goals in two games for Milan.
