Inter Milan fined £43k for fans racially abusing Balotelli

ABUSED: Mario Balotelli

ITALIAN FOOTBALL club Inter Milan have been fined £43,000 by Serie A officials after their supporters were found guilty of abusing their former player Mario Balotelli during the Milan derby on February 24.

The 22-year-old Balotelli was subjected to monkey chants and fans were spotted waving inflatable bananas at the AC Milan player, who is of Ghanaian heritage.

It was his first game against his former club, who he left in 2010 for Manchester City, since returning to Italy with AC Milan on January 31.

It is the second time that Inter Milan has been fined for a racist incident involving their fans within the space of a month.

On February 12, the club were handed a £12,900 fine for directing racist chants at Balotelli during a Serie A game against Chievo.

AC Milan were also criticised for a racist incident earlier this month after club vice-president Paolo Berlusconi called Balotelli “the family’s littler n***er” during a political meeting.
