Island Records president Darcus Beese awarded OBE

HONOR: President of Island Records Darcus Beese poses with his OBE at an investitures ceremony at Buckingham Palace

ISLAND Records president Darcus Beese has been awarded an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list for services to the UK music industry.

The music expert was given the prestigious honour by Prince William on Friday (Nov 14).

Beese is most famous for signing a string of top artists including Florence & The Machine, Mumford & Sons, Jessie J and The Sugababes.

Today (Nov 17), Bang Bang singer Jessie J posted an Instagram photo of Beese collecting his OBE. In the caption she said: "Darcus you signed me in the UK 5 years ago to @IslandrecordsUK.

"You always have had time for me, advice to share and great understanding of sometimes how hard it can be for me and never given up.

She added: "The fans don't always get to see true music people in the music industry. And to see you being given an OBE brings so much warmth to my heart."

Beese also worked very closely with the late Amy Winehouse, after bringing her to Island Records in 2002.

The widely respected executive joined Chris Blackwell's outfit as promotions assistant at Island in 1993, and has worked his way up to the top of the company under Univeral's ownership, reported Musicweek.com.
