ITV2 launches season showcasing BAME talent in entertainment

COMING SOON: Dropperz stars Kiell Smith-Bynoe, Adam Deacon, Guz Khan and Letitia Hector

ANUVAHOOD STARS Femi Oyeniran and Adam Deacon will join forces once again for a brand new ITV 2 mockumentary Dropperz.

Dropperz, which sees Oynerian in the role of creative director and executive producer, centres around a struggling grime group whose last shot at success doesn’t go according to plan.

The show, which forms part of ITV 2’s comedy season showcasing BAME talent, is made by Purple Geko Productions, the company behind hit online series Venus v Mars, and also stars Kiell Smith-Bynoe, Guz Khan, Alexis Caley and Venus vs Mars lead, Letitia Hector.

Victor Adebodun will also executively produce the special and direct alongside Ed Wiles.

Femi Oyeniran, creative director of Purple Geko, said: “At Purple Geko we are committed to creating diverse scripted content and working with fresh talent.

“New writer Ed Wiles' Dropperz exemplifies this commitment, with BAFTA award winning actor Adam Deacon spearheading a cast of new onscreen talent. This project with ITV marks an exciting time for us, as we continue to grow and build on our expertise of producing authentic youth-skewed content for broadcasters and online platforms.”

Dropperz will be joined on the station by What’s The Facts, a faux-factual and far-fetched mockumentary fronted by British comedian Jason Lewis and All About The McKenzies, a family sitcom conceived, written, directed and starring British actor Samuell Benta.

The comedy season has been commissioned by entertainment commissioning editor Asif Zubairy and head of digital channels and acquisitions Rosemary Newell.

Newell said: “This year’s Fresh season is the perfect opportunity to bring some fantastic new comedy and entertainment to our viewers from some exceptionally talented stars of the future.”

Zubairy added: “We have four incredibly funny, edgy and innovative comedy and entertainment shows and are excited to be bringing these to the ITV2 audience. I’m thrilled that we are continuing our strong ties with BAME talent and offer a much-deserved platform for talent both on and the screen.”
