DOCUMENTARY: Jamelia
R'N'B STAR Jamelia will present a documentary later this month covering the stigma attached to single mothers.
The singer turned presenter is currently filming a programme, called Shame about single mothers that will explore the lives of single mothers from the 1960s into the 21st century. It will be shown on August 29.
Mum of two, Jamelia, joined ITV’s Loose Women show yesterday (July 25) to talk about the documentary, airing her concerns about the unfair judgement on single mothers.
She told the show about her own experience as a single mother, which she said was due to her making bad decisions.
“I grew up without a father and I genuinely believe I went to look for that in my relationships,” she said.
She defended the belief that young girls set out to have babies and raise them on their own.
“I don’t think that anyone goes out to be a single mother…its circumstances.”
She said that young people are lacking necessary education about relationships and that it is very important to teach them about pregnancy so that they can make better decisions.
Shame about single mums will air August 29 on BBC 3 at 9 pm.
