DETERMINED: Krept and Konan

ONE OF Britain’s most promising rap duos have spoke about a turning point in their careers came when self-belief turned a period of homeless into the success.

South London pairing Krept and Konan have established themselves as genuine up-and-comers having regularly appeared on leading online youth broadcaster SBTV as well as their mixtape Tsunami reaching number two on the ITunes hip-hop chart.

However, Konan revealed that the loss of his stepfather almost brought a halt to their rise.

“A personal thing happened in my life, which made me homeless, I lost all my belongings and materialistic things and lost my stepdad. It kind of turned everything upside down,” he said.

Krept commented: “We actually sat down and said ‘are we still gonna do this music thing?’”

Nevertheless, their determination and self-belief enabled them to progress.

“What it boiled down to was we’re gonna do this music thing fully. It’s now or never basically. We had the self-belief of just doing it,” said Konan.

“Don’t let anything stop you. Whatever you put your mind to, you can do. That’s how I see life. If you’ve got self-belief, no one can stop you.”

The rappers were speaking in videos that have been produced exclusively by SBTV in association with the National Citizen Service (NCS), to highlight the importance of self-belief for teenagers.

The joint venture highlights the importance of self-belief and confidence as the key to unlock potential and kick-start a better future for young people.

Singer Rita Ora’s and SBTV founder Jamal Edwards’ self-belief videos are currently on SBTV and over the coming months, additional recorded messages by Ed Sheeran, Adam Deacon and Wretch 32 will share how confidence made a difference to their lives as they encourage 16 to 17-year-olds to believe in themselves and make the right decisions at this life-defining age.
